Suzanne Yankovic spent weeks getting to know a man over the phone in the summer of 1999 before she ever saw his face. He was a Los Angeles musician closing in on 40. Instead of explaining his own life story, he told her to skip the questions and just watch a new VH1 special about him instead.
She watched it. She showed up for the date anyway.
That man was “Weird Al” Yankovic. Suzanne Yankovic married him in 2001. In the two long interviews she’s given about her own life since then, a podcast about aging in 2024 and a friend’s podcast in 2022, she spent most of the time talking about her mother, her daughter, and a woman named Jamie Lee Curtis. Her husband barely came up.

Her career at 20th Century Fox
Krajewski grew up mostly in the Dallas area after her family moved there from Michigan when she was a child. Trinity University came next, then a marketing job that brought her out to Los Angeles in 1989, recruited straight out of Dallas by 20th Century Fox.
Within a decade, she was running the department that handled the studio’s advertising overseas, for both its movies and its television shows. That’s the job she held when she met Al Yankovic in 1999, senior vice president of international marketing, promotion and publicity, a job she’d held for about a year by then.
How she met “Weird Al” Yankovic
Bill Mumy introduced them. He’d played Will Robinson on the original Lost in Space and knew them both.
Weeks of phone calls followed before they met in person. Yankovic described the lead up to that first date in an interview with WIRED in 2008.
“I hope she’s cute, ’cause I just might marry her.”
Suzanne had her own doubts going in. She told Rolling Stone in 2014 that she almost talked herself out of it, thinking it was “kind of shallow” to judge someone by his public persona before meeting him. Then they met, and the doubts went away.
They married on February 10, 2001. She was 38. He was 41. Their daughter, Nina, was born two years later, on February 11, 2003.
Life after Fox
Around 2006, about five years into the marriage, she left the studio after a 17 year run there. She stopped dyeing her hair around the same time.
She’d started coloring it around 35, mostly on a whim, and kept it up for a few years after that. Once Nina was born, she let the gray grow back in and never dyed it again. In interviews, she’s said she wanted her daughter to see a mother who was comfortable with herself, gray hair included.
Her mother is named Sally Lou, after two great aunts, Sally and Lou, who marched for women’s suffrage in Chicago in the years around the 19th Amendment and, before that, played on their own women’s baseball team. Suzanne has mentioned that family history more than once, on a podcast and in a social media post about voting.
In 2018, when Yankovic received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he thanked her from the stage for putting up with him during what he called his creative moods, joking that he sometimes wandered the house “like a zombie in a Simpsons bathrobe.”
A friendship with Jamie Lee Curtis
Suzanne and actress Jamie Lee Curtis have been friends since around 2008, when the two of them ended up judging a school talent show together. Curtis later became Nina’s godmother, and the two women call each other “FIA,” short for Friend I’ve Always Wanted. Suzanne talked about how the friendship grew over the years on Curtis’s podcast, Good Friend, in 2022.
On October 29, 2025, at Variety’s Power of Women event in Beverly Hills, Suzanne walked onstage to introduce Curtis, who was receiving the honor that night. Seventeen years into the friendship, she was the one holding the microphone for somebody else.
What she’s doing now
Most of what the public sees of her these days runs through Instagram, where her account, @suzanneyankovicphoto, describes itself in one line: “This is my only public social media account.” Alongside her own photography, she’ll post the occasional bit of family history, like a childhood bicycle she still owns 50 years later.
Along with the Instagram account, she volunteers as a baby cuddler at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and has joined her family delivering Thanksgiving meals through Project Angel Food, including in 2022 and 2024.
In July 2023, she noticed a dangerous crack forming in the coastal bluffs above Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica and posted about it on Instagram. The post reached local officials, and the city removed the unstable section of the bluff soon after.
Al Yankovic marked their 25th wedding anniversary on February 10, 2026, posting an old photo with the caption “I married this cutie 25 years ago today.” A few months later, in May, he started the biggest tour of his career, ninety dates that ran into the fall. Back in January, before any of that began, the two of them were photographed together at a gala the Recording Academy holds every year just before the Grammy Awards, the kind of event they’ve been showing up to together since at least 2019.
