Anna Peckham did not say a word in the first television ad her husband’s Senate campaign built around her. The 2014 ad showed the couple planting flowers outside a house owned by Cotton’s father, part of a campaign message built around his Arkansas roots. Peckham appeared on screen for several seconds and never spoke.
That was not a directing choice. Peckham held a legal position inside the U.S. intelligence community at the time, and a 2014 report in Politico, cited by the Arkansas outlet Talk Business & Politics, said she could not appear speaking in her husband’s campaign ads because of Hatch Act restrictions tied to her federal job. Peckham’s own biography separately mentions a family butter making business that once supplied roughly a tenth of the country’s butter and sold products nationwide and overseas. No public record explicitly links the two, though the details align closely.
In 2002, she interned for then Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, according to congressional staff records. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University in 2000 and a law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2004. Bar records reviewed by the Arkansas Times show she has been licensed to practice law in New York, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Montana. Her official biography also describes her as a former federal prosecutor who tried both jury and bench trials, without saying where or when.
A Wedding Kept as Quiet as Her Job
Peckham met Cotton in January 2013. Larry Arnn, a Heritage Foundation board member and fellow Arkansan, told her to go hear the newly elected congressman speak at a Washington luncheon. She went, and left having given Cotton her phone number, according to Franco’s profile.
They were engaged later in 2013. Cotton’s office kept most wedding details private at the time, telling reporters only that his fiancee was a Virginia based attorney who had grown up in rural Nebraska and met him at a lunch she attended at a friend’s encouragement.
They married on March 15, 2014, and have remained married since. Several accounts have reported that the wedding took place in Virginia, which appears to confuse where Peckham worked with where the ceremony happened. Franco’s 2016 profile places the wedding at The Greenbrier, a resort in West Virginia built in 1778 and known for a Cold War era bunker beneath it. At the time, Cotton’s office would say only that the location was being kept confidential.
The One Story Cotton Has Told in Public
The couple has two sons. Gabriel was born in the spring of 2015. Daniel Mark Cotton was born on December 7, 2016, and was taken to a neonatal intensive care unit in Washington after developing respiratory distress syndrome, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported at the time.
Cotton later described the experience on the Senate floor, saying doctors induced labor at 37 weeks after his wife developed a pregnancy complication and that Daniel needed to be intubated before he recovered. It is one of the few details about their family life Cotton has spoken about at length in public. In 2025, he introduced a set of Senate bills addressing infant care and premature birth, tying the legislation directly to that hospital stay.

A few details about Peckham that circulate publicly are simply wrong. One account describes her earning a medical degree from Cambridge and working as an oncologist, a claim contradicted by her own professional biography and by every bar record tied to her name. Another places her law degree at the University of Arkansas rather than Cardozo. Her exact date of birth has also proven difficult to verify. Different sources list one, but none point to an original record, and it has not been independently confirmed.
What is documented is what she has chosen not to say. In December 2022, a reporter for the Arkansas Times examining Cotton’s residency sent a list of questions to an email address associated with Peckham. She did not respond.
A Choice Now, Not a Requirement
The Hatch Act restriction that kept Peckham silent in that 2014 campaign ad expired the day she left federal government. Nothing legally requires her silence now. Cotton is running for a third Senate term in 2026, chairing both the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Senate Republican Conference, more visible nationally than at any point in his career. His wife has kept doing the same kind of work she once did for the government. She still handles material that stays private, for people who prefer it that way.
