Eva Marcille does not have a twin sister. What has confused people for years is a name change she made in November 2006 and never announced publicly. Before that, she went by Eva Pigford, and the space between those two names is all this rumour has ever been.
She was born Eva Marcille Pigford on October 30, 1984, in Los Angeles, the only daughter in her family. Her three siblings are all brothers.

Why People Think Eva Marcille Has a Twin Sister
Eva was born with three names. The middle one, Marcille, came from her two grandmothers, Marjorie and Lucille, their names combined and passed down to her at birth. She carried all three for most of her life. In 2006, she dropped the last one.
On November 15, 2006, she left her management team, which included Benny Medina and Tyra Banks, and stopped using Pigford as her professional name. She began going by Eva Marcille instead. By that point, two years had passed since she won America’s Next Top Model Cycle 3, and the name Eva Pigford was working against her at acting auditions.
She explained it on The Breakfast Club in February 2026:
“Y’all knew me as Eva Pigford. I changed my name to Eva Marcille, which is my legal middle name, so that when I went into auditions I wasn’t pre-judged. They just saw a girl named Eva.”
She made no public announcement about it. For anyone who had followed Eva Pigford through modelling in 2004 and 2005 and later found Eva Marcille on television, two names on one recognisable face left no explanation. Online, that gap became a twin sister.
She would tell Us Weekly the same year: “I’m prejudged in everything I do, and so I am not going to hang my hat on Tyra.”
Her Career, From ANTM to the Present
She entered America’s Next Top Model Cycle 3 in 2004 at 19, while studying speech communications at Clark Atlanta University with a minor in criminal justice. She had already secured early admission to Vanderbilt Law School before the show came along.
She beat finalist Yaya DaCosta in the finale. The prizes included a CoverGirl contract, a Ford Models deal, and a spread in Elle magazine. She went on to cover Essence magazine and work with brands including DKNY and Samsung.
Her television work began in 2005. She played Tracie Evans on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne from 2007 to 2012, and during that same period she joined the CBS daytime soap The Young and the Restless as Tyra Hamilton, from June 2008 to August 2009. The show chose that character’s name. Having spent two years putting distance between herself and the Tyra Banks association, she spent more than a year playing a woman named Tyra on national television.
She joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2018, first as a guest in Season 10 and then as a full cast member through Seasons 11 and 12, departing before Season 13 in 2020. From 2021 to 2025, she led All the Queen’s Men on BET+ as Marilyn “Madam” DeVille, appearing in 53 episodes.
Her Three Children and Personal Life
She has three children:
- Marley Rae (born 2014), with music producer Kevin McCall
- Michael Todd Sterling Jr. (born April 2018), with attorney Michael Sterling
- Maverick Sterling (born September 2019), with Michael Sterling
Eva married Michael Sterling on October 7, 2018, in Atlanta. In March 2023, she filed for divorce, with court documents describing the marriage as “irretrievably broken.” She told People at the time: “This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.”
The couple reconciled. By July 2025, she had appeared alongside Sterling at the Essence Music Festival, and in September 2025 she confirmed the reunion to Entertainment Tonight.
“He is my forever,” she told ET. “He is and always will be my forever and only.”
Eva Marcille in 2025 and 2026
In autumn 2025, Eva joined Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test Season 4, filmed in Morocco alongside a cast that included Jussie Smollett. During the second episode, the two were tasked with escaping a submerged plane. She surfaced and lost consciousness in the water. Paramedics pulled her onto a nearby boat.
“Oh my God, I could have died,” she said after coming round.
Smollett put it plainly afterward: “She did everything right. I messed up. I went out the back. She passed. We lost because of me.”
Producers withdrew her from the competition on health grounds.
In early 2026, she was doing press for Netflix’s Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, a documentary revisiting the show and its effect on former contestants. She told CBS Mornings she was “gobsmacked” and “amazingly horrified” by accounts from the cast. She was more measured when it came to Tyra Banks: “Tyra did us, did me, a service, and helped me a lot. I don’t think she deserves that.”
In February 2026, she was back on The Breakfast Club, explaining the name change, twenty years after she made it.
She changed her name in November 2006 so that a casting director seeing her for the first time would have no prior association to look up and nothing to connect to a reality show she had won two years earlier. It worked long enough to build a career.
But Eva Pigford did not disappear. She stayed in old magazine covers and ANTM footage, without any explanation attached, long enough for a twin sister story to take root. It was always the same woman, one name removed from the one she was born with, and twenty years of questions she has been answering ever since.
